So serious and prevalent is this issue that environmentalists have coined a new term for it—IAQ or Indoor Air Quality. Today’s homeowners need to become more aware of the importance of IAQ and what they can do about it.

Energy-Efficient Freewatt® Heating System – Press Release

The Freewatt System Uses Micro-CHP technology, Can Lower Society’s fuel and Energy Consumption

Utica, N.Y. – June 23, 2009 – The future of home energy has arrived with the freewatt® home heating system. Manufactured by ECR, freewatt is the green alternative in home heating, allowing homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint without sacrificing comfort.
Freewatt operates using micro-combined heat and power (micro-CHP) technology, which marries an ENERGY STAR-rated, high-efficiency gas furnace or boiler to a Honda generator.
“freewatt is designed to operate whenever the home has a need for heat,” said Michael Paparone, ECR president and CEO. “Using the Honda generator, freewatt generates 1.2 kilowatt hours of electric power and nearly all the heat created by the generator is then recycled to heat the home. This electricity can be used to power the home or can be sold back to the ‘grid.’” micro-CHP has been identified by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of two technologies designated as a Climate Choice technology. According to the EPA, Climate Choice is a new partnership program that recognizes emerging technologies that have the potential to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions once they are more widely adopted.

“Unlike a traditional home heating system, freewatt can produce nearly 5,000 kilowatts of electricity each year, which reduces your carbon footprint by up to 6,000 pounds,” Paparone said. “For example, using freewatt for one year is the equivalent to not driving your car for six months.”

By installing a freewatt system, a home’s value can increase from anywhere between $5,000 and $20,000. Additionally, freewatt can be easily installed by certified freewatt professionals in both new and existing construction as either the full system or the “freewatt ready” system. Utilizing freewatt may also help residential projects qualify for points under the LEED for Homes Rating System.
